LOWELL -- Tradition meets memory and innovation at the Loading Dock Gallery in March when Western Avenue Studios artists Laura Doran and Peter Zimmerman team up for Restructuring Tradition.
Running Feb. 27-March 31, the show features Doran's digitally-altered photos of family heirloom china, crystal and glass. The project began as a private exploration of memory, as Doran photographed the treasures, then manipulated them digitally with her computer, creating a new vision. She has shared them with her mother, bringing the memories full-circle.
Zimmerman offers a series of new glass vessels in the exhibit, created during his visit to Bermuda to work on the free-blown pieces in a furnace that registered 2100 degrees. The shapes and techniques are ancient, but he used his imagination and creativity to explore color and pattern in ways that are modern.
