Supper: The Townsend United Methodist Church will hold a St. Patrick's Day Supper featuring corned beef and cabbage served with horseradish sauce, vegetables, barm brack and Irish soda breads, and assorted pastries. Serving from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., dinner is eat-in or take-out. The price for adults is $10, seniors $9, children $5, and children under 6 years, free. Supper: Townsend Congregational Church invites you to enjoy a Roast Pork Dinner with Sauerkraut, homemade applesauce, carrots, mashed potatoes, and homemade dessert from 5-6:30 p.m. Tickets, available at the door, are $ 10 for adults and $5 for children ages 3 through 8. As always, children under 3 eat free! Dinners are also available for take-out. Everyone is welcome to attend our worship and community events. For more information, call 978-597-8925.

Game Dinner: The Townsend Rod and Gun Club's annual Game Dinner will be held from 5-9 p.m. The dinner will highlight various game for "culinary trail blazers," as well as traditional ham and turkey.

There will be door prizes, sporting goods raffles, and club information. (You don't have to be a member to come to the dinner!) The club is on Emery Road, off Route. 13 in Townsend. Foxwoods trip; sign up now!

The Friends of the Townsend Seniors are planning a trip to Foxwoods Casino on Thursday, March 21. The trip is open to all area adults. This is a fun trip and you are invited to come with friends.

Townsend Ecumenical Outreach food assistance program

TEO is the local food assistance program for those Townsend residents needing a helping hand. TEO has a monthly food distribution program at its 82 Bayberry Hill Road facility, held on the third Saturday of each month. To apply for assistance, call Laurie at 978-597-2549 and she will send you an application.

Massachusetts Open Burning Season has started, and ends on May 1

Permits may be obtained during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday and Sunday, at Townsend Fire-EMS Headquarters, 13 Elm Street, Townsend.

The cost for an Open Burning Permit is $20, an Agricultural Burning Permit is $25. Cash or check will be accepted. Please make all checks payable to Town of Townsend.

To exercise (use) an existing permit, please call (978) 597-8101 between the hours of 9 a.m. and Noon, seven days a week, each day you plan to burn. Please have your permit number and the address you are burning at available when you call. Permit fires may not be lit before 10 a.m. or after Noon on the day in question. Weather conditions may cause a ban on burning for the day.

Please be aware that due to recent budget cuts we are utilizing on-duty personnel for permit processing. This may result in Fire-EMS Headquarters being locked and unmanned during normal permit processing times while our staff is responding to calls for service. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. 

You must speak directly with a member or agent of the Townsend Fire-EMS Department before burning. Leaving a voice mail message is *not* considered notification. Failure to make proper notification will be considered an illegal burn, and my subject you to 1.) being liable for the cost of extinguishing the burn, 2.) a fine, and/or 3.) imprisonment. Allowing a fire to get out-of-control may subject you to the same penalties. (Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 48, Section 13).
