Tech lunch: Lunch catered by Nashoba Technical School culinary students will be held at noon in the Meeting Hall. Chef Steve Whiting and his students are offering a full course meal of either Chicken Cordon Bleu or Veal Parmesan. Please purchase tickets at the Senior Center for $10 by Jan. 10.

Ice-fishing derby: Townsend Rod and Gun Club. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the derby will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be held at the club pond, off Emery Road on Dann Colburn Way, just off Route 13. Entry fee is $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12. The pond will be stocked with hungry rainbow and brown trout. The fishing derby is open to all area adults and children and promises to be a fun-filled day. Bring your own fishing bait. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service: NMRHS students will hold a day on, rather than a day off. Join us for a hands-on day of service activities, crafts for a cause, book and food drive, and community projects. Two sessions: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., North Middlesex Regional High School.
Dog licenses for 2013 are now available in the Town Clerk's office. License your dog before March 1, 2013, to avoid the late fees.
New program for caregivers
"It's all about you" is a new program being offered at the Townsend Senior Center for caregivers. It will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 1 p.m.
If you are caring for someone, this is a time for you to get together with those who share the same situations and concerns. Different topics will be discussed each month under the guidance of Mary Ann Melanson.
January's topic will be "How to Beat the Holiday Blues."
Refreshments will be served. There is no charge nor need to sign up. Just drop in when you can.
This social will meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
Russian Music at Townsend Library
Join Barbara Suhrstedt and Tanya Sheppard for a culturally rich program that will feature slides, poetry and music. The program will feature slides of Russian art from the 19th and early 20th centuries; the poetry of Pushkin, Nekrasov, Lermontov and Anna Akhmatova; and the piano music of Liadov, Rachmaninov, Scriabin and Tchaikovsky. Barbara Suhrstedt has had a life-long interest in Russian music and culture and has visited Russia 13 times since 1998. Tanya Sheppard has traveled extensively throughout the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe as a tour guide for 28 years. She has a deep and personal understanding of Russian culture and has given many talks on the subject. Sponsored by the TPL Endowment
