TOWNSEND -- The Historical Society's open house at the Reed Homestead, 72 Main St., is Sunday, Dec. 2, from 1 to 4 p.m. Tours of the circa 1809 house will tell about the Reed family and why the house is still unspoiled by modern renovations. Visitors will see the hand-painted "wood-grained" woodwork, a sink pump, the working hearth and beehive oven, the vast clothing collection, and the remarkable Rufus Porter murals. It is free of charge, open to the wider community, and promises to be enjoyable for the whole family.

Seasonal decorations, a hearth fire, and refreshments add up to a wonderful way to start the holiday season. The Reed Homestead open house is an invitation to come for a visit that takes you back in time. Please call Townsend Historical Society at 978-597-2106 for information.
