THURSDAY, AUG. 23
Band concert: 6 p.m. (approximate time) lawn party; 7:30 concert, Town Common. Townsend Scout groups will host the lawn party at the Townsend Military Band's concert on the Town Common. Boy Scout Troop 10 will sell grilled hot dogs, hamburgers and sausages as well as cold bottled water and assort soda. Boy Scout Troop 81 will offer friend dough, corn dogs, meatball subs, popcorn, chips, bottled water and soda for sale. The Girl Scouts of Townsend will be doing face-painting and have a decorate-your-own-cupcake concession. The co-ed Venture Crew will operate a soda battle ring toss game. Cub Pack 11 will have a bounce house and several games. Pack 12 will have a bake table. Members of Cub Pack 12 will assist Boy Scout Troop 81 at its food concessions.

Forks over knives
On Sept. 16 from 4 to 6 p.m., there will be a DVD and discussion regarding a new eating lifestyle. This new plan has been known to reverse diabetes, heart disease and obesity as well as improve our quality of life.

Attention Artists and Crafters
Applications are still being accepted for Townsend Historical Society's 31st Annual Arts and Crafts Fair to be held Sept. 15 and 16 on the Townsend Common. This is a great opportunity to showcase your talents and display your work for visitors to admire and purchase.
There will be music, including Jeff Jam for children and an old fashioned band concert, artist demonstrations, and tempting food for sale, from the grill and from talented local home bakers. The town common offers the character of historic old New England, the perfect fall weekend venue for an arts and crafts fair.

Special election
There will be a Town Election on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Memorial Hall, for the school override to supplement the FY13 operating budget of the North Middlesex Regional School District.
