FITCHBURG -- Bromfield fell behind early in the first half of Monday's Monty Tech Summer Basketball League to host Monty Tech, but it recovered nicely behind the offensive performance of junior Jake Frackiewicz.
Frackiewicz found his momentum in transition, scoring a game-high 28 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the Trojans to a 55-49 win over the host Bulldogs inside the main gymnasium.
Monty Tech built a 7-0 run behind a high-powered outside attack, but Frackiewicz, along with teammate Riley Sennott, helped give the Trojans new life.
Sennott connected on an outlet pass to Liam Sullivan, who sunk a finger roll layup to end the four-minute Bromfield scoring drought.
The Bulldogs answered with a quick basket, but Bromfield would not go away.
Sullivan cut the deficit to six with a spot-up transition jumper from Frackiewicz with 12 minutes remaining in the opening half.
Late in the first half, Frackiewicz and Tate Edmunds (13 points, 3-of-5 3-point range) helped the Trojans storm back after they fell behind by as much as 11 points in the half.
Edmunds knocked down a three from deep in the left corner to bring Bromfield with two, 18-16, with 6:13 remaining.
The Trojans allowed a quick Monty Tech basket, but it soon regrouped. Frackiewicz barreled into the paint and was hacked on the elbow.
Frackiewicz converted both free throws to tie the game for the first time since the opening tip.
Monty Tech scored four-of-the-six remaining points of the first half to take a slim 24-22 advantage into halftime.
It was a tale of two halves for Bromfield, as it opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run following a pair of baskets from senior center Kevin McCauley (2 blocks).
McCauley and the Bromfield defense weathered a mini run by the Bulldogs, but McCauley tied the game on a gritty put-back basket down low at 30-30 with 16:30 remaining in the game.
And then Frackiewicz caught fire converting on three consecutive possessions.
Frackiewicz plucked the ball at half court and laid in a fastbreak hoop with his back to the rim.
Frackiewicz's offensive prowess highlighted a 10-0 Trojan run that was capped off by a splash down three in the corner by Edmunds to make it 40-30.
Monty Tech answered with a three-pointer of its next trip down the floor, but Bromfield continued to push the tempo.
The Bulldogs drew as close as seven points in the final five minutes of the game.
Bromfield scored the final six points of the game to put the feisty hosts hopes at a comeback to rest.
Bromfield finishes the Division 2 Monty Tech Summer Basketball League with an overall record of 9-3.
The Summer League playoffs have been canceled due to gym renovations being conducted, which started Wednesday.
