WESTFORD -- Groton residents Alicia Gentile and Russell Byron-Kelly have been selected as Athletes of the Month for May at Nashoba Valley Technical High School.
Alicia Gentile, daughter of John and Kristian Gentile, is a sophomore who excelled on the spring track team.
Alicia qualified for the states in the 400-meter hurdles, 100-meter high hurdles and the javelin, and competed in the triple jump. Gentile recorded a personal-best in the javelin at the state meet. She is also a cheerleader, and has been a dancer for 13 years.
Alicia is a high-honors student and a member of the National Honor Society. She is president of the sophomore class, a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and plays flute for the school band.
Russell Byron-Kelly, son of Charlene Kelly, is a 2014 graduate, who played first base and outfield for the baseball team for four years. Byron-Kelly was also captain of the volleyball team. He was named a league All-Star last fall for volleyball. Byron-Kelly was named a Student of the Month as a sophomore. Russell is a high-honors student, a member of the National Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society, treasurer of the National Technical Honor Society, a member of the Drama Club and a Kick-Off Mentor, helping incoming freshmen. Byron-Kelly is a recipient of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship for his performance on the MCAS test.
Russell graduated from the Design & Visual Communications program, and received a TAMY nomination from Mt. Wachusett Community College's Theatre on the Mount for the playbill he designed for the Drama Club's production of "Shrek the Musical."
