Groton-Dunstable 56

Quabbin...............43

Groton-Dunstable is riding on a bit of a high-note after beating Quabbin at home Friday, 56-43, to improve to 4-2 in Midland B league play. The Crusaders now sit in second-place following the win. Matt Tornaritis led the Crusaders with 11 points, while Cedric Wirta and Romich chimed in with 10 and 11. The Crusaders trailed by three at the half, but in the second, they turned the tide on the Panthers. According to first-year Groton-Dunstable head coach Greg Gillette, the defense was the real difference maker.

"We clamped down defensively in the second half," the coach said. "We held them to just 13 points in the second half. It was a good team defensive effort. Matt Tornaritis and Matt Werner guarded the other team's best offensive players. They're playing hard. We started 0-4, and we kept working through that, which was key."

Groton-Dunstable will return to action Sunday when it travels to face Chelmsford at 1 p.m. in a non-league game, as part of a boys'/girls' twin-bill.
