BOYLSTON -- Friday night was a special one for Bromfield senior Montana Burke, who netted her 1,000th career point at Tahanto. The milestone basket came just two minutes in, when Burke nailed a three-pointer from the top of the key. Burke joins her sister Lindsey atop the rafters at Bromfield High School with her accomplishment.
Not only did the Trojans defeat Tahanto convincingly, 57-29, but history was made. Burke joins the company of four other Bromfield grads who have accomplished the feat. Burke led all scorers with 16 points in Friday night's win.
Burke, according to Trojans' head coach Mike Dube, was relieved to finally put the 1,000th point behind her.
"Tahanto was great," said Dube. "The girls stopped the game, and announced that it was Montana's 1,000th point and allowed her to celebrate with teammates and family. Montana was relived to get it done, and so were her teammates. They knew it has been weighing on her. It was very well deserved, and she worked extremely hard to get there."
Burke is the first guard in program history to join the 1,000-point club. Be on the lookout next week for a story on the Burke sisters, and what it means to share a banner at Bromfield.
