The Townsend Gold earned a 5-2 victory over the Pepperell Red Sox as they advanced into the semi-mpionship play.

Townsend's Brian Walter was the offensive star of the June 20 game with two hits and two runs scored. He showed versatility by laying down a beautiful bunt single to start the game and then later drove a deep shot over the left-fielder's head for a double in the sixth inning.

Jake Ovaska (single, RBI) and Lucas Doucette (infield hit) also had hits for Townsend.

Contributing to Pepperell's offense were Corey DaSilva (two hits, run scored, RBI) Brenner Morel (double, single), Joe Sheridan (single), and Nick Smith (single). Trevor Larochelle scored a run in the second inning.

The difference in the game was a three run first inning by Townsend as they scored all of the runs on a bunt single, a sacrifice bunt by Devon Blanchard and some careless play by Pepperell that scored Townsend's Jake Ovaska and Jay Cobleigh.

Pepperell did flash a bit of leather to keep the game close. Ben Wharram made a nice scoop on a tough ground ball at first base and catcher Tyler Dexter threw two would-be base stealers out. The first one was a rally killer as Townsend was threatening to put the game away early.

Townsend used three pitchers: Jake Ovaska, Brian Walter, and Devon Blanchard while Corey DaSilva and Tyler Dexter toed the rubber for Pepperell.

to muster a rally. Townsend left fielder Jarod Dussault fielded a base hit and threw to the cut off man Jake Ovaska who then threw home to catcher Jay Cobleigh trying to nail Pepperell runner Corey DaSilva. DaSilva scored, but a heads-up play by Cobleigh froze the runner between first and second. Cobleigh then threw to Yanni Halkiadakis who applied a nice tag for the out.

Townsend manager Scott Blanchard and Pepperell manager Stephan Lech are to be commended for working with the team over the course of the season.

The game was played at North Middlesex Regional High School.
