SHIRLEY -- Recently, we were asked by a group of parents of kids from Lura A. White Elementary School to help build birdhouses for their birdhouse tree project. We thought that would be a wonderful idea.

As a result, John Tohline has built, on behalf of the Shirley COA, 27 birdhouses of various shapes and sizes. These will be painted later this year by the LAW students and then placed in the appropriate spot at the school.

Also, we will be asking some of the other seniors to "decorate" a COA birdhouse for inclusion in the project. Generations helping other generations is an important part of the community in which we all live.

Thanks to the folks from LAW for thinking of us and thanks to John Tohline and the future decorators for their help.

Watch for announcements from the folks at LAW about the unveiling next school year.
