BOSTON -- This update was provided on a new Facebook page established to track Ayer native Brittany Loring's progress following the Boston Marathon bombing attack of April 15. Like the Facebook page at "Recovery for Brittany Loring." This was posted on Monday afternoon, one week out from the Marathon attack:
"Over the weekend, Brittany underwent her third and final surgery, at which time all of the shrapnel was removed from her leg. In the next few days, she'll be moving to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, where she will continue her recovery for a short period.
"Brittany has been very appreciative of the care she's received and of the outpouring of support she has received from people across the country. Her family wishes to thank everyone for their support, as well.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, Brittany's family asks that supporters and well-wishers please donate to a recovery fund that has been established for her. The details on where an individual can donate are below: Recovery Fund for Brittany A. Loring, Fidelity Bank, 9 Leominster Connector, Leominster, MA 01453, 978-870-1400. Or individuals can donate online at giveforward.com/fundraiser/f582/recoveryforbrittany."
