Senior painting class renewed
The Shirley COA is proud to announce the resumption of watercolor painting classes at the Senior Center. The classes will be taught by Marjorie Vaudreuil an artist and art teacher who recently moved to Shirley.
The classes are for both the beginner and the "returning to the easel veteran" all looking to get into an "artistic mode".
They will be held on Tuesday afternoons from 1-3 starting Jan 15. The price is $10 per class. Bring your own supplies. Marjorie will work individually with each student to help them reach the levels they seek. It is important to sign up ahead of time as we need a minimum number to proceed.
Call 978-425-1390 to sign up in advance.
A new safety program for seniors
The Shirley Council on Aging announces a new Safety Program for Seniors called the "Detectors 4 Seniors" Program.
We have seen over the past winter, a number of seniors who are living in houses and trailers where there is no carbon monoxide detectors and in many cases no smoke detectors. Thanks to the generosity of Nashoba Homecare, Moore Lumber, Phoenix Park and the Devens Grill, we have been able to buy a limited number of detectors that we can provide to seniors in need.
If you are a senior living in a home that has oil or gas heat and you do not have a carbon monoxide detector, call us. If you live in any house that does not have any (or enough) smoke detectors, call us. We will be distributing these on a
No senior should need to trade-off safety for food or medicine. Do not take the risk, as we can help. Just call us at 978-425-1390!
Meals-on-Wheels drivers needed
The Shirley COA is looking for a couple of drivers to deliver meals to seniors. We are looking for a driver to deliver meals on Thursdays beginning ASAP. We are also looking for a couple of back-up drivers who might help when one of the normal drivers are ill or have a scheduling conflict.
The driver's role is simple. They meet the delivery truck at the Senior center at about 11 a.m. and using a route slip provided by the COA, they deliver meals to about 10-12 seniors around the town. It usually takes about one to one-half hour. This is a volunteer position but we do pay a minimal mileage reimbursement.
If you are willing and able (car, license and able to get in and out of the car frequently), give us a call at 978-425-1390.
