Holdenwood Trail Run and Day of Play
The sixth annual Holdenwood Trail Run, a major fundraiser in support of the local schools sponsored by the Ayer-Shirley Education Foundation, will be held rain or shine on Sunday, Sept. 30, on the Common in Shirley Center. This year, the 2K will start at 10 a.m. and the 5K will start at 11 a.m. with Day of Play activities during and after the races.
This race's course is set through rolling fields, forests and gardens. There are families who just walk the course together enjoying the scenery. There are also serious runners who will try to beat last year's winning times of 19:50 for the women and 18:01 for the men. For the 2K race, a local 9-year old finished at 8:15, a definite challenge for other youngsters and oldsters.
Runners can register at www.active.com. Those who register before Aug. 31 will receive a free race T-shirt, tech shirts for the adults and cotton shirts for the kids. Registrations will be taken through Wednesday, Sept. 26.
Activities on the Common will include music, face painting, Zumba, hip-hop, and games. There will also be food and drinks for sale by several local charities.
The premiere sponsor for the day is the Bull Run Restaurant. Other generous donations have come in from Bemis Company, Fidelity Bank, Phoenix Park, the Shirley Charitable Foundation, the Nashoba Club, Nashoba Valley Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Eddy, Bodylines, Squannacook River Runners, ISS, Clif, Squg, GU, Dicks Sporting Goods, Duval Signs, Pinards Florist, Trader Joes, C.H. Robinson Worldwide Foundation, Robin Terhune and Acton EMS.
