SHIRLEY -- The 2012 London Olympics are over, but the games have yet to begin locally.
The Olympics are coming to the Benjamin Hill Pool on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 1 to 6:45 p.m.
In addition to competing for medals, participants will compete in swimming, diving, toss games and relay events for other prizes, including the chance at winning a 2013 family membership to the pool.
Andy Deveau, a member of the Benjamin Hill Committee, said that throughout the summer, the staff tries to do various family fun events that don't cost a lot of money.
"They'll do Christmas in July, a pirate day and several other events throughout the season," he said, while noting that having a place like Benjamin Hill for the kids to go in the summer is imperative.
"I think we probably broke records this year in terms of memberships and lessons," Deveau said. "We did really well with lessons, and we're finding we're getting more and more out-of-town people."
In the upcoming Olympics, participants can choose to represent their favorite country, or celebrate the accomplishments of the United States in London. Food will be available.
