Uniformed members of the American Legion came out in force to support Ayer American Legion Post 139 Commander Betty Ann Matozel (seated on isle) as she addressed allegations leveled by selectman Frank Maxant that the post denied membership to his Marine veteran friend and former housemate, Benjamin Franklin Pierce, a Level 3 sex offender. Seated behind Matozel in a show of support is Shirley American Legion Post 183 Commander Charles Church. Seated aside Matozel were Ayer American Legion members Tom Brown (middle) and James Lucchesi (by window). (Nashoba Publishing/Mary Arata)
