LOWELL -- R. Brabrook (Bray) Walsh, superintendent of the Proprietors of the Lowell Cemetery, an historic nonprofit cemetery located at 77 Knapp Ave., Lowell, was elected to serve as president of the New England Cemetery Association for the 2013-2014 term. The election took place at NECA's 111th annual Meeting and Conference in June.

Walsh has served on the board of NECA for six years and has been a member of the association for 17 years.

Walsh received his New England Cemetery Association Professional Achievement Certification in June 2010. He is past president of the Massachusetts Cemetery Association and has served as superintendent of Lowell Cemetery since 1996. Formerly of Pepperell, he currently resides in Lowell.

The New England Cemetery Association is an educational organization dedicated to the collection and dissemination of information pertaining to the operation, maintenance and improvement of New England cemeteries. The membership represents all types of cemeteries including municipal, religious, private and nonprofit; historical and newly developed; active and inactive. The members come from all six New England states and beyond and subscribe to the association's Code of Ethics.

The 85-acre Lowell Cemetery, which opened its gates in 1841, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
