Geek of the Week
Why do you come to the library? It's full of books!
What do you geek? Wizards
Lawrence Library geeks wizards, too! If you didn't get a chance to come to our Harry Potter Day in April, you can see the photos on our Facebook page; we watched the first movie, and made chocolate wands and butterbeer!
Harry Potter is one of the most famous literary wizards, and we have all his books in print and audio format, but he's not the only wizard out there; we also have the Lord of the Rings series, Ursula Le Guin's Earthsea trilogy, and books about the King Arthur legends, which feature the incomparable Merlin.
Teens should be sure to check out James Patterson's Witch and Wizard series, while younger magic lovers will appreciate 1001 Wizard Things to Spot. There are magical books for all ages!
For those wishing they could attend one of the famous magical schools from these books, we have books for all levels about how to perform magic tricks as well as DVDs such as Step by Step Magic.
Just a few weeks ago, we even had a visitor from Boston's Museum of Science come out and show us the science behind magic tricks. Artistic wizard-lovers can enjoy books about how to draw wizards as well as Wizard, Pirate and Princess Things to Make and Do, while those interested in the history of wizards can check out Wizardology: The Book of Secrets of Merlin.
We also have DVDs set in magical worlds, including The Sorcerer's Apprentice and the entire Harry Potter saga.
The library can help everyone explore the things they geek. For information, or if you are interested in being the Geek of the Week, stop by Lawrence Library.
