PEPPERELL -- With the end of the school year quickly approaching, the Pepperell Aid from Community to Home food pantry is in need of donations to help families with young children throughout the summer.

PACH will be holding a food drive during the Pepperell 4th of July parade on Saturday, July 6. PACH volunteers will be pushing shopping carts down Main Street during the parade, which begins at 12:30 p.m., to collect donations.

Volunteer Ellen Castellano said the response from the Pepperell community to PACH food drives has always been very enthusiastic, and she expects the same at this drive.

"Pepperell as a community has always been extremely generous. We feel that what we get is always what people are able to donate," Castellano said.

Although PACH will accept many different products, they are placing a particular emphasis this summer on products that children enjoy, such as peanut butter, jelly, juice boxes, canned ravioli and macaroni and cheese.

"In the summertime with children out of school, we look for items that are kid-friendly," said pantry coordinator Clara Couture.

The pantry is also always in need of paper products, such as diapers and toilet paper, Castellano said.

PACH also welcomes monetary donations to help purchase perishable items, such as milk and eggs.

The pantry had been running low on food, but a donation of 2,000 pounds of food by Cub Scouts, Webelos and Boy Scouts of Pack 55 last month boosted the supply significantly, Castellano said.

PACH has also received consistent donations of frozen meats from Hannaford Supermarket, and has added the Merrimack Valley Food Bank to places from which it purchases food.

However, the pantry distributes food quickly and is always in need of more donations.

"Pepperell residents from businesses to individuals have always been wonderful. We've had a lot of support from outside Pepperell, too," Couture said.

Donations can be made year-round by bringing food to the PACH offices during open office hours or to selected drop-off containers around Pepperell.

The PACH office is located at 45 Main St. in Pepperell at the Peter Fitzpatrick School. It is open Tuesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. and Thursdays from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.
