PEPPERELL -- Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua, N.H., is negotiating for the purchase of land to open a medical building in Pepperell, according to Town Administrator John Moak.
The center would offer both primary care and an immediate care clinic, Moak said. It would be between 10,000 and 12,000 square feet and employ up to 25 people.
The land being negotiated, at 70 Main St., was rezoned from residential to commercial at Town Meeting in May.
Scott Cote of Foundation Medical Partners, SNHMC's physician group, said any plans to build a facility in Pepperell are in too early a stage for comment.
Cote said that Foundation Medical Partners will, however, have a presence in Pepperell with the hiring of Dr. David Spiegelman. Spiegelman's practice, Pepperell Family Practice at 66 Hollis St., has become a part of FMP.
Cote said the company's interest in Pepperell stems from Pepperell's interest in SNHMC.
"We've had many patients in that area express interest in being a part of our services. All of our locations are driven by community interest," he said.
Moak said Pepperell would welcome the addition of a new health center both for the jobs it would bring and the services it would provide.
"Medicine is a key to our lifestyles now, and to have that kind of convenience right in Pepperell on Main Street, should be a real positive aspect to making our town more sustainable," Moak said.
Susan Snyder, Pepperell Planning Administrator, said that the Planning Board has not yet received an application to build on the land.
Snyder said that if SNHMC were to apply to build on the land, she believes the Planning Board would most likely support the building of a medical center.
