PEPPERELL -- Enjoy a perfect day of ballet fun for the budding dancers and story lovers in your family on Saturday, March 16, at 11 a.m. when ballerinas from Harvard Academy of Dance take center stage at the Lawrence Library, 15 Main St.

Author David Ira Rottenberg will read his picture book, "Gwendolyn, the Graceful Pig," while the dancers perform the story. As an added treat, a mini-movement lesson will be offered to the children in the audience after the performance and Rottenberg will sign copies of his book.

"Gwendolyn, the Graceful Pig" tells the tale of Gwendolyn and Omar, two best friends who have big dreams. Gwendolyn longs to dance ballet and Omar wants to join the football team. There is just one problem -- they are both pigs!

Rottenberg contacted Harvard Academy of Dance Artistic Director Kimberly Corbett about offering the event in local libraries. She said, "The piece is not only an opportunity for our lovely young dancers to display their skills, but a way to inspire a love for dance and reading in young people."

Corbett hopes the Harvard Academy of Dance will do more performances of "Gwendolyn, the Graceful Pig," and she looks forward to finding other opportunities for collaboration. "Part of our mission is to share the arts with as many people as possible. We hope to continue with more outreach programs of this nature."
