PEPPERELL -- At its Sept. 24 meeting, the Board of Selectmen approved an article that would require the board to disclose who the buyer or lessee to the Peter Fitzpatrick property would be.
The article will only be necessary if the rezoning article is passed.
"I would just like to have it there as a placeholder for now," said Selectman Joseph Sergi.
Sergi said if the rezoning article passed, he expected that a committee would be formed to make decisions regarding the property, the actions of which would be a matter of public record. Still, he said, the article would help address concerns that any residents might have regarding full disclosure.
"When we sold the Canal Street property, we didn't disclose that, we just authorized the Town Meeting sale of land. Then there were other transactions that folks brought to my attention that made them uncomfortable. This is just to reiterate that everything is going to be transparent," said Sergi.
The item will appear as article 10 on the warrant, beneath the rezoning article.
The selectmen also approved an article to that would appropriate $40,000 to repair the roof of Town Hall's vaulted entrance.
Town Administrator John Moak said town employees had recently noticed leaking in the roof.
"There's an extensive amount of work that needs to be done," said Moak.
The process is complicated by the fact that a concrete handicap-accessible ramp was built over the vault.
