TOWNSEND -- The Townsend Community Couples Club will host the lawn party at the Townsend Military Band's Thursday, Aug. 20, concert on the Townsend Common.
The aroma of grilled onions and peppers will fill the air, as Couples Club members cook hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs and sausages to sell to those attending the concert. Fried dough, potato chips, hot coffee, cold soda, bottled water and a wide selection of home-baked goods and plants will be offered for sale. Children attending the concert may win prizes by playing a variety of games set up on the common.
The Townsend Military Band will open its concert at 7:30 p.m. by playing a fanfare and "America." Bilik's "Block M," "Barber's Adagio," and the "Folk Song Suite," by Williams will be performed. Gershwin's "Someone to watch over me," Grafulla's "Echoes of the 1860's," "Till Eulenspiegel" by Strauss, and Prokofiev's "Opus 99" march will be included in the first portion of the concert. Following intermission, the Townsend Band will play Cohan's "Mister U.S.A.," Loesser's "Just Another Polka," and the "Kurt Weill Songs." "Amazing Grace," Sousa's "Nobles of the Mystic Shrine," and "America, the Beautiful," will be performed.
