Dear voters of Groton,

I am struck by the outpouring of support at the polls on May 20. Many of you had never heard of me before a few months ago, but you opened your hearts and minds, and invited me into your lives. The waves, thumbs-up, hand-shakes, smiles and brief conversations made me very proud to be a resident of Groton.

I give special thanks to a select few who stood up and assisted my journey so strongly. Please know that I am humbled by the amount of time and effort expended, all so that I might have an opportunity to contribute to our town.

This has been a wonderful experience for me. I have met so many great neighbors and have been enriched by the conversations we've had. As a community, you've embraced me, and so my journey was successful before Tuesday. The final vote count tells me that I should continue, and I hope that you will again allow my name to be on the ballot in the future.

Please accept my gratitude for reaching out and supporting one person's attempt to be involved. I hope that many more people are inspired by your acceptance. Groton is a great community full of wonderful neighbors.

Barry A. Pease
