We would like to thank the residents of Shirley for the outpouring of support during the recent town-wide Food Drive for Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry. Well over 8,000 pounds of food was collected valued at over $13,000! This effort represents a 17 percent increase in volume over last year. The Scouts of Shirley, Ayer and Groton, under the direction of Joyce Reischutz, are to be commended for their dedication to this annual project which will help us continue to feed our neighbors throughout the upcoming holiday season.

The need continues to grow. During October 2012, we served 668 households, an increase of 18.9 percent over the same period in 2011 and a new record for the Pantry. We welcomed 40 new families during the month, another new record. We depend on the community support we receive and simply could not survive without it.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and staff, our heartfelt thanks.
