I would like to thank the Ayer-Shirley Regional High School faculty, administration, staff and students for hosting their 14th annual Veterans Day program on the morning of Nov. 8 to honor all of our local veterans. It is an event that my father, who is a World War II veteran, and I never miss. A special thank you should be extended to Mr. Steve Tulli, teacher at the high school, who has organized these events since 1999 for all veterans from Ayer and Shirley as well as surrounding towns. The day started with a breakfast, followed by visits to individual classrooms so that the veterans could share their personal experiences and answer student questions. The morning culminated in a very well organized assembly with talks by several students, veterans, school officials and local town/state representatives, including Rep. Sheila Harrington. The educational value for the students was immense, as it has been every year.
