J.U.M.P. (Just Understand My Potential), a Harvard-based nonprofit that offers the mountain experience to underserved young people in north-central Massachusetts, will participate in this year's "Flags on the 48" event.

Each year, hiker teams fly the American flag from the summits of all 48 of New Hampshire's 4,000 foot peaks to honor those lost on 9/11. This year's event will be held on Sept. 8. A team from J.U.M.P. will raise the flag on the summit of Wildcat Peak at noon.

J.U.M.P. serves adolescents who are growing up in difficult circumstances, or face mild physical or behavioral challenges. Participants receive back-country skills training along with mentoring and educational support, helping them raise their expectations of themselves. Fun is always an option.
