As a citizen of the town of Ayer, I awoke today to learn that our town had suffered badly in a terrible fire last night, throughout the night, and how much of the safety of our town we owe to the Ayer Fire Department and the police who worked with them.
Without these brave people, so much more would have been list. And people could have died or have been badly hurt. As it as, because of them, much of the block and surrounding buildings were protected and there was no loss of life.
How does one say thank you to those who run into the face of death to save the lives and property of others? How do we think these brave people who put the fate of others before their own lives?
A simple "thank you" is not enough, although it should start there.
Can we as citizens of the town of Ayer come together and do something more to thank these tremendously brave people? Perhaps through our churches, we could work together to put together a dinner for the brave people who worked so hard and saved so much for us all on Monday night, June 18-19. The night of the fire that took so much, but, because of the courage of our Fire Department and our police, no lives, and, as little property as possible.
I think that it is important to thank these immensely brave people for all they have done for us. I think that it is important to thank them all for our town and our continued safety.
