A call to backyard gardeners, young and old: This fall there will be a Harvard Harvest Fair in conjunction with the Harvard Farmer's Market on Sept. 7.

It's not too late to be planting tomatoes, beans, squash, cucumbers, onions, garlic, corn or whatever strikes your fancy to enter this competition. There will be a contest for eggs and honey as well.

Throughout the summer there will be informational releases on the HFM website (harvardfarmersmarket.org) for judging criteria, which will follow the Massachusetts Agricultural Fairs Association guidelines. This includes, of course, contests for the heaviest tomato, biggest pumpkin and tallest sunflower!
