After several years in the "old" library, we are moving the book collection and sale to the "new" Harvard Public Library on Pond Road. We miss our old location, but we are happy to see the Center on the Common thriving in that fabulous space.
As much a harbinger of spring as blooming forsythias, we again ask Harvard residents (many of whom are obviously bibliophiles) to please donate your books. Book collection is on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon through May 4. Please bring books, CDs and DVDs in good condition. Since we have limited space, please do NOT bring VHS tapes, encyclopedias, magazines, or any moldy or broken books.
The book sale is our major fundraising event. All proceeds go to support the library to fund children's programs, Friends of the Arts performances and free museum passes, among many other programs and services. We also fund the Dr. Jeff Harris Memorial Scholarship at Bromfield High.
The Friends book sale preview date is Friday, May 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. The early bird book sale is Saturday, May 11, from 8 to 9 a.m. ($10 admission). The regular book sale (free) is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The Friends' newsletter went out this week to every home in Harvard. In it you will find profiles of HPL's three high school-aged employees, Friends of the Arts 2013-14 schedule and information about new e-book services offered by HPL. You will also see a donation envelope. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation. As a small thank you, members of the Friends are admitted to the Friends Preview Book Sale on May 10, which allows members to shop in a quiet atmosphere for the best selection of books.
