Yohann Kumarasinghe, a sixth-grade student at Bromfield, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee on Dec. 21. The school-level bee, at which students answered oral questions on geography, was the first round in the 25th annual National Geographic Bee sponsored by Google.

Earlier in December, Kumarasinghe and second-place finisher Drew Femino, won their way into the school-level bee during preliminary classroom competitions. Other participants included sixth-graders Ben Buckovecky, Patrick Flanagan, Will Gill and Charlie Pappas; seventh-graders Alli Milliken, Penelope Schnier, Henry Wilmot and Jeffrey Young; eighth-graders Nick Evans, Duncan Fort, Alex Lee, Cam Maddalone and Meaghan Parlee.

Kumarasinghe and other school winners from around the state will now take a written test; top scorers from Massachusetts will be eligible to compete in the state bee on April 5.
