HARVARD -- Each year, the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents (MASS) allows each school superintendent to present an award of academic excellence to a deserving student from the senior class.

At the Nov. 13 Harvard School Committee meeting, Harvard Public Schools Interim Superintendent Joseph Connelly presented the MASS Certificate of Academic Excellence to Bromfield senior Clara Wang.

"The (MASS) awards are given to high school students who have distinguished themselves in the pursuit of excellence during their high school careers," said Connelly.

The criteria for the award are a three-year cumulative grade point average, rank in class, and personal selection by the superintendent based upon the student's impact on his or her school.

Connelly said that Wang is president of Bromfield's National Honor Society and of her senior class. She is also a member of the Bromfield soccer and swim teams, works part time, and volunteers at the Harvard Public Library.

She hopes to be accepted at Yale University in nternational studies or political science.

Connelly commended her for her enthusiasm for life, her caring attitude toward others, and her academic excellence, as he congratulated Wang and her family and presented her with the MASS Academic Excellence Award for 2012.
