HARVARD -- At 11:04 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, the Fire Department responded to a fire on Spectacle Island at Bare Hill Pond.
Contacted in the morning for details, Fire Chief Joseph Sicard confirmed it was a structure fire but said he could not provide much more information at that time.
He could not say whether the fire had spread to surrounding woods, if the building was a summer cabin or a storage shed, as some reports indicated, or describe the extent of damage caused by the blaze.
However, he did say that nobody was injured.
Ayer and Devens Fire departments assisted at the scene while the Bolton Fire Department covered the Harvard station. Sicard said Ayer and Harvard fire boats shuttled firefighters and equipment to and from the island.
Asked how long it took to extinguish the blaze, Sicard said that wasn't clear yet but firefighters were still going back and forth the next morning.
As of Tuesday morning, the investigation was still ongoing.
