GROTON -- Five high-school juniors from four different schools will represent American Legion Post 55 and its Ladies Auxiliary at Massachusetts Boys and Girls State to be held at Stonehill College from June 15-21.

The four Boys State delegates are Collin Sullivan (GDRHS), Daniel Alberts (GDRHS), Bennett Marston (Boston College High School) and Matthew Fischetti (Phillips Andover). The Girls State delegate is Katherine Howard (Parker Charter). Sullivan is a Dunstable resident, and the others are from Groton.

Designed to increase the knowledge and awareness of high school students concerning governmental processes at city, county and state levels, the upcoming state programs provide students with a thorough understanding of how government works.

Each student is assigned to a political party and becomes a citizen of a specific city and county of Boys and Girls State. As citizens, students will take a bar exam, participate in seminars and workshops, conduct elections and participate in political rallies.

Program activities will also include drafting legislation, holding mock trials and setting up their own state government.

According to Post 55 Vice Commander Dave Elliot, "The post is very proud of these delegates based on their past achievements and future potential."

The five delegates were selected following a rigorous screening process.
