GROTON -- Despite the sprinkling rain and warm winds that breezed across the greens, locals still attended the Groton Pool and Golf Center open house on Saturday, May 11 from 1-4 p.m.

Inside "The Fairways," the center's function hall, guests could access a variety of booths to attain information on summer golf programs and leagues, the swim team, swimming lessons, summer camps, and opportunities for function hall weddings, parties and other events.

Popcorn was popping, crafts were being created and samples of beautifully decorated tables and creatively colored cocktails were on display.

Outside, the aroma of grilled hot dogs filled the air as golfers tried their hand at putting, chipping and driving range competitions.

Golf course tours were scheduled, virtual golf was being demonstrated inside the pro shop with the golf course simulator and guests could take a peek at the pool, which will open officially on May 25.

The open house was staffed by Groton Golf Association members who assisted visitors as they toured the facilities and participated in the day's events. The association was formed in the spring of 2011 by a group of golfers whose goal is to enhance all aspects of the golf experience at the Groton recreational facility.
