LOWELL -- A former Groton police officer, who was charged last month with resisting arrest, is being held without bail after he was arrested by Lowell police for allegedly assaulting a female family member.

In Lowell District Court on Tuesday, Eric M. Watkins, 42, of Lowell, pleaded not guilty to one count of assault and battery.

With the new arrest, Judge Laurence Pierce revoked Watkins' personal recognizance -- holding him without bail -- on his pending case of resisting arrest, assault and impersonating a police officer.
