Font ResizeGROTON -- Recently fiscal 2013 first quarter real estate tax bills were sent to residents. The bills were printed by the town's new software vendor and have a new layout. On the bill there are two errors that need correction.
The first one is that your bill has the town of Essex seal printed below the title of the bill; this should have been the town of Groton seal. As the title of the bill states and as the contents confirm, the bill is in fact a town of Groton tax bill and payment should be made to the town of Groton.
Second, there is a line on the bill for "preliminary water district," relating to a West Groton Water District tax. This entry should not have appeared on the bill, and all taxpayers whose bill listed an amount other than $0 will be receiving a corrected tax bill and a separate Water District tax bill in the mail within a few days.
The town apologizes for any inconvenience these errors may have caused. They will not happen again.
