Sunday is Father's Day and we wish all fathers a wonderful day.

For those of us in the "baby-boomers" generation, our fathers are aging; many have passed on.

We grew up in the shadow of World War II and all the hardships it brought. Life when we were children was so different from what it is now.

The soldiers of that "greatest generation" talked little of their service but the pain of what they suffered could be seen in many as they went about life, silent and sometimes grim. Memories of the battles fought and the brothers lost were buried within them but not so deep that they didn't remember.

Our fathers, who contributed so much to the building of this nation, live on in our memories.

What is sad is that one day we, too, will be gone, and no one will remember the fathers of that "greatest generation."
