There is a bill afoot on Beacon Hill that would remove the parental rights of a spouse convicted of killing the other spouse.
We wonder why this wasn't done long ago.
It's unbelievable to think that a child would be forced to have anything to do with a parent who has killed his or her mother or father. Such occurrences have been reported again and again in the news.
Perhaps it should come as no surprise that Massachusetts is just getting around to remedying such an outrageous situation given the poor report just handed to the state on its handling of children in the foster care program.
It's like recent efforts to stop welfare recipients from spending their welfare payments on things like guns, alcohol, cigarettes and pornography. Really? Why would it take the Legislature so long to take such a common sense step.
Authorities should remove welfare payments from such recipients and give them to people who actually need them for food and other staples of life.
What a novel idea.
