Seed-saving talk Aug. 21

A seed-saving talk sponsored by Mass. Master Gardeners Association and the Friends of the Townsend Library will be held Thursday, Aug. 21, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Townsend Library's Meeting Hall A.

Our speaker, Gretel Anspatch, is the immediate past president of the Massachusetts Master Gardeners Association and a software engineer who works for a major electronics company and resides in Hudson.

She has also volunteered sporadically for the New England Wildflower Society as an adult's and children's guide. She considers her horticultural interests to be eclectic, which is to say she knows a little about a lot and not much about anything. Gretel is a member of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society's Board of Trustees.

Thursday band concerts

The Townsend Military band will perform a concert on the Townsend Common Thursdays this summer, starting at 7:30 p.m. and ending at 9:30 p.m. Before and during the concerts, lawn parties will be held on the common offering food and games, sponsored by local nonprofit groups. All are invited to attend!

The Aug. 21 concert will be sponsored by the Townsend Community Couples Club, which will use proceeds from the lawn party to fund the annual $500 scholarship to a North Middlesex Regional High School graduate as well as to support other worthwhile community projects and causes.

Any bicycle is a good bicycle, reclaim-reuse. Our aim is to keep bicycles from being destroyed when they can be reused. Too many bicycles get throw away or end up at the transfer station in the scrap metal pile.

There is no cost and your old or new bicycle unwanted bicycle will get a new home. If you are not able to drop your bicycle/s off, please call and we will pick it up.

Also wanted: Bicycle tubes, tires, baskets and racks.
