Friends of Townsend Seniors accepting nominations for Wm. E. May Endowment Fund award

The Friends of the Townsend Seniors are looking for that outstanding individual in the Townsend community who has given of himself or herself to the growth and betterment of the town of Townsend.

Friends President Russ Moore explains that candidates will be well-respected and will have demonstrated through actions and deeds a keen interest in the affairs and needs of the senior citizens of Townsend.

Nominations are now open for this year's honoree for the 2014 William E. May Endowment Award.

Past awardees include: William E. May, Dr. Lawrence Churchville Jr., Roy and Nancy Shepherd, Jim Clish, Ethel Amiro, Bob Tumber, Ed and Mary West, Hirk and Louise Fortin, Connie Giles, Terry McNabb, David Profit, Avis Roy, Russ Moore and Ken and Susan Gerken.

Nomination forms are available at the Senior Center (978-597-1710), McNabb's Pharmacy and the Town Clerk's Office.

If someone was nominated in the past and not selected, please consider resubmitting that individual for consideration. Nomination forms should be placed in a sealed envelope, marked "William E. May Nomination" and mailed to Friends of Townsend Seniors, P.O. Box 972, Townsend, MA 01469 or dropped off at the Senior Center. They must be received by June 6.

VFW clambake and chick BBQ June 15

Townsend VFW Post 6538, its Ladies Auxiliary and its Men's Auxiliary will hold their annual Clambake and Chicken Barbecue at the 491 Main St., West Townsend VFW, on Sunday, June 15, from noon until the food is sold out.

Barbecued chicken dinners complete with potato salad, corn on the cob, cranberry sauce and roll with butter, boiled lobsters with drawn butter, potato salad, corn-on-the-cob and roll with butter, steamed clams with broth and drawn butter and clam chowder will be available at market prices.

The public is cordially invited to attend, but it is highly recommended that one arrive close to noon to ensure that their favorite food choice will still be available.

VFW ladies Auxiliary to honor contest winners June 16

The Townsend VFW Post #6538 Ladies Auxiliary will honor its Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest, Patriot's Pen Essay Competition, Grade 5 Essay Contest and Grades 3 and 4 Poster Contest winners at an open house and awards ceremony to be held in the Townsend VFW Post 6538 Function Hall located at 491 Main St., Townsend, on Monday evening, June 16, beginning at 6:15 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend.

The 122 essay and art contest entries received will be on display.

Well adult clinic June 19

Nashoba Associated Boards of Health, in conjunction with the Ashby Board of Health, announces that a Well Adult Clinic will be held free of charge for the general public on Thursday, June 19, from noon to 1 p.m. at the American Legion, 361 New Ipswich Road. Drop in for blood pressure, pulse screening and diet teaching. No appointment necessary. Thirsty? Buy some lemonade and help fight cystic fibrosis, June 21

Two caring and enterprising young girls will be set up in front of McNabb's Pharmacy in Townsend on June 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise money to help in the fight against cystic fibrosis. Last year, their lemonade stand raised $700 for the cause.

Townsend Methodist Church indoor yard sale June 28

Townsend United Methodist Church's annual indoor yard sale is Saturday, June 28, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. The church is located at 265 Main St.

This is the time of the year for seasonal cleaning and recycling your no longer needed items. Chairman Marcia MacMaster invites area residents to call the church if you have items to donate.

Please, no computers, exercise equipment or encyclopedias. Call 978-597-2486 for information and donation drop-off times.
