Mary Helan Turner of Littleton County Road plays Domina, the domineering wife in the musical comedy "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," which is coming soon to the Cannon Theater in the old mill on the Littleton Common.
This farce, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart (creator/writer of TV's "M*A*S*H"), won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1962. There actually is a plot, involving the cunning slave Psuedolus' attempts to obtain his freedom in ancient Rome. But mostly "Forum" consists of hilarity, mistaken identities, funny and romantic songs, men in togas, scantily dressed women, revolving doors and, of course, a happy ending.
Production dates are May 16 through June 7 and Helan, who is sharing the role with Perry Allison of Vermont, will be performing May 16, 24, 30 and 31.
The theater only holds 55 seats, so reservations are highly recommended. The first weekend, May 16 and 17, there will be a 20 percent off special ticket price, with adults, $16, seniors/students, $12 and children 10 and under, $8.
