WESTFORD -- Casey Jones of Townsend and Zachary Hughes of Ayer have been selected as March Students of the Month at Nashoba Valley Technical High School.
Casey Jones, daughter of Brad and Jennifer Jones, is a sophomore in the Design & Visual Communications program. She is an honor-roll student, and a member of the chorus, the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and the newspaper and yearbook staffs. Outside of school, she is active in her church's youth group. Casey plans to go to college after she graduates.
She was nominated by two teachers. English Instructor Wendy Hood wrote that Casey has taken on much of the writing, designing and editing of the school newspaper, The Viking Voice. "She is a very driven young lady who is already looking at going to college in Toronto. She is polite, hardworking and respectful."
Social Studies Instructor David Fusco wrote: "Casey is an outstanding student who works well on group projects and is a pleasure to have in class."
Nathan Meharg, Casey's instructor in Design & Visual Communications, wrote: "Casey is a very dedicated and hard-working student who performs extremely well on her assignments and is diligent in handling her responsibilities."
Zachary Hughes, son of Richard and Melissa Hughes, is a sophomore in the Culinary Arts program. He plays football and has been involved in Boys Scouts for six years. He hopes to attend college after graduation.
Zach was nominated by Bakery Chef-Instructor Carley Engle, who wrote: "We have a new student joining our program, and I felt as though Zach went above and beyond to welcome him into the class. Not only did he display several acts of kindness, but he also inspired others to start welcoming the new student. He is a great example of a student who goes out of his way for others."
