LUNENBURG -- An Ayer man is being held on $5,000 cash bail after being arrested Friday night for his involvement in the armed robbery of a Lunenburg convenience store.
Jeffrey Smith, 23, was arrested and charged with armed robbery and larceny over $250.
Lunenburg Police responded to a report of a robbery early Wednesday morning at the Honey Farms/Mobil service station on Leominster Shirley Road.
At approximately 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, Smith, wearing a hat and bandana, entered the store, brandished a knife, and demanded the clerk hand over an undetermined amount of money from the register, police said.
According to police, he also stole several cartons of cigarettes.
Video surveillance cameras caught pictures of Smith, which were released to the public.
Smith will be arraigned in Fitchburg District Court next week.
