PEPPERELL -- Selectmen last week took no action on a hearing about a possible liquor-license violation at Tea Cafe on Tarbell Street.

Although a lawyer representing Tea Cafe had requested the hearing be postponed until next month, and representatives from the restaurant were not present, Selectman Michael Green moved that the board find no evidence of overserving.

At a meeting Jan. 6, Police Chief David Scott told selectmen about an incident in which an intoxicated person was placed in protective custody after a disturbance. That person had reported drinking at Tea Cafe earlier in the night.

However, Green said that because the incident had taken place hours later, there was no indication Tea Cafe was at fault.

"We don't have much of any evidence that there's an issue here and we can head this off before it becomes more of an event than it needs to be," Green said.

Selectmen also set a date for a Special Town Meeting to authorize borrowing for the proposed North Middlesex Regional High School construction project for March 10.
