TOWNSEND -- If Mother Nature cooperates, Townsend VFW Post 538 and its auxiliaries will host their annual ice skating party on Sunday Jan. 26 at the VFW Pond in West Townsend.

Area residents of all ages are invited to join for an afternoon of outdoor fun. Skating will begin at 2 p.m. A fire will be lit at dusk and once it has cooled, refreshments will be brought out for the skaters to roast over the embers.

The Townsend VFW Post 6538 Ladies Auxiliary will hold a bake sale at the 491 Main St., West Townsend, VFW Post Home during the Jan. 26 ice skating party to benefit the VFW National Military Services Program. The Auxiliary ladies will be selling homemade cookies, candies, breads and pies to raise money for VFW National Military Services, which provide support to the troops and their families through the Military Assistance Program (MAP), Operation Uplink and Unmet Needs Program before, during and after deployment.
