AYER -- At Coffee Talk for Seniors, a Nashoba Valley Medical Center physician or staff member presents on different topics each month. Today, at 9:45 a.m., we will discuss the importance of flu management and travel medicine. Nashoba Valley AWAKE with Dr. Amjad Husain, joina Nashoba Valley Sleep Support group on Thursday, Oct. 3, to learn more about circadian sleep phase disorders, which affect the timing of sleep. Husain will focus on the different types of Circadian disorders along with the possible causes such as: medications, shift work and jet lag due to time zone changes. Important sleep hygiene techniques will also be discussed. The seminar will take place at Nashoba Valley Medical Center in the Founder's Room starting at 6 p.m. DME companies and a sleep technician will be on site for free mask fittings and to answer questions. On Saturday, Oct. 19, Nashoba Valley Medical Center will host its second annual 5K Hunger Run road race, which is professionally timed and has been certified by the U.S. Track and Field Course Certification Program. The race will begin at Nashoba Valley Medical Center at 11 a.m. and travel along the scenic back roads of Ayer and Groton. Register online at active.com (search Hunger Run 5K) before 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17. You may register the day of the event from 9:30-10:30 a.m.; however, advanced registration is strongly recommended. The first 100 runners to register will receive a T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded for first place male and first place female runners directly following the 5K race. The cost to register for the 5K race is $20 in advance, $25 for same day registration, $5 for the Half Mile Run and $5 for walkers. We ask that each runner bring one, nonperishable food item to be donated to Loaves and Fishes. All proceeds will benefit Loaves and Fishes.
