FITCHBURG -- With gratitude and enthusiasm, The Arc of Opportunity of North Central Massachusetts announces the receipt of an $18,000 United Way Grant. This critical funding enables The Arc of Opportunity family supports and recreation program to continue with vital initiatives for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.

Funding will allow The Arc to provide family support groups, educational forums, training opportunities and recreational events, which are a cornerstone to families needing support while providing the opportunity for networking with others facing similar challenges and successes. Funding enables important advocacy, public education and family training to continue, fulfilling the agency mission of creating and supporting lifetime opportunities in the community for individuals with disabilities and their families. Additionally, this grant ensures that community outreach to help bring family support services to underserved populations can continue and grow.

The Arc of Opportunity's family support and recreation program does not receive state or federal funding, relying on securing grants and the generous contributions of supporters to continue serving the community.
