Individuals who want to learn about volunteer opportunities in their community can find more than 100 different opportunities through United Way of North Central Massachusetts' Volunteer Center, Community Builders. This week's featured opportunity: Accession of historic papers and artifacts.
The Shirley Historical Society has been given many papers, books, photos and objects. Each gift needs to be described and accessioned. This means filling out a sheet of information about the object and then putting the object in an appropriate storage location. Volunteers need to have good reading and writing skills. They need to be careful workers and eager to learn a new skill and be prepared to make a commitment of at least one morning a month.
