FITCHBURG -- Workers' Credit Union has been named a top workplace by a regional business magazine.
"This is quite an honor, to be recognized," said Jack Doolin, senior vice president of human resources for Workers' Credit Union.
The credit union, along with four other local companies, was named a 2012 Top Workplace by the Worcester Business Journal.
Workers' Credit Union, with over 200 employees working out of 15 branches, was specifically lauded for having innovative benefit programs.
According to Doolin, the credit union offers all the traditional benefits, which include insurance and vacation time -- but it is the additional benefits that set the credit union apart.
Doolin said that one of the more unique and popular benefits is that every employee gets a paid holiday for his or her birthday. "We have had 100 percent participation."
The community credit union also hosts a movie night once a quarter, renting an entire theater so that employees, their spouses and children can have a night out, courtesy of the credit union.
Workers' also holds an annual employee appreciation luncheon for employees who have reached their five-, 10- and 15-year or beyond workplace anniversaries.
One of the benefits that helps leave a positive mark on the community is the credit union's policy of giving employees up to two days of paid time off for charity work done in their off time.
